Boeing 757-236, serial number 33101, entered service with First Choice Airways as G-OOBF. The aircraft operated charter and leisure routes from the United Kingdom to holiday destinations across Europe, North Africa, and the Caribbean. Configured with a high density passenger cabin, the 757-200 was well suited for tour operator flights carrying large numbers of travelers. Powered by Rolls Royce RB211 engines, the aircraft offered strong reliability and range for medium haul charter services. G-OOBF supported First Choice Airways' vacation travel network before the airline later merged into Thomson Airways.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
