Boeing 737 MAX 9, operated by Copa Airlines as HP-9923CMP. The aircraft is part of Copa's major fleet-renewal program centered on the 737 MAX family. Powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines, the MAX 9 provides greater range and improved fuel efficiency compared with Copa's earlier 737-800s. These capabilities are particularly important to Copa's "Hub of the Americas" operation at Panama City, allowing the airline to serve longer routes throughout North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean with a single narrowbody fleet. HP-9923CMP represents the new generation of aircraft underpinning Copa's continued expansion from its strategically located Panama hub. The Boeing 737 MAX is an American narrow-body aircraft series being developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes as the fourth generation of the Boeing 737, succeeding the Boeing 737 Next Generation. The first flight was on January 29, 2016. The 737 MAX is based on earlier 737 designs but re-engined with more efficient CFM International LEAP-1B along with aerodynamic improvements, most notably split-tip winglets, and airframe modifications.
