Boeing 737-8ZY, serial number 63325, line number 6173, operated by the revived Mexicana de Aviacion as XA-AWM. The aircraft first flew on November 10, 2016 under Boeing test registration N5002K and was delivered to the Mexican Air Force later that month as 3528. In January 2024 it transferred to the new state-owned Mexicana, receiving registration XA-AWM and a 180-seat passenger configuration. XA-AWM operated scheduled Mexicana services from Felipe Angeles International Airport until November 2025, when it was withdrawn and returned to the Mexican Air Force as 3528. Powered by two CFM56-7B26 engines, the aircraft therefore has the unusual distinction of serving both Mexican military aviation and the revived national airline. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats. In fact, the 737 series is the best-selling jetliner in aviation history with more than 6,500 aircraft manufactured to date and more than 4,500 still in service with over 500 airlines around the world.
