Boeing 727-27C, serial number 19115, entered service with Braniff International Airways as N7276 in October 1966. Delivered new from Boeing, the aircraft was the seventh of Braniff's new 727-27C Quick Change jets and initially wore Alexander Girard's turquoise Solid Color Scheme. It was later repainted in Braniff's Light/Lime Green combination. Powered by three Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines, N7276 could quickly alternate between passenger and cargo operations. In 1975 it was briefly leased to Faucett in Peru as OB-R-1115 before returning to Braniff, and it was eventually converted into a freighter for UPS as N909UP.

Designed as a smaller, short/medium-ranged complement to the 707, the 727 was first flown on February 9th, 1963.
