Airbus A380-841, manufacturer's serial number 001, registered F-WWOW, was the first A380 ever built. The prototype made the type's historic maiden flight from Toulouse on April 27, 2005, beginning an extensive flight-test and certification program for the world's largest passenger airliner. Powered initially by four Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines, F-WWOW was used for aerodynamic, handling, systems, performance, and certification testing. It later became a familiar Airbus demonstration aircraft, appearing at major international air shows and promotional events. As MSN 001, F-WWOW occupies a unique place in aviation history as the aircraft that launched the Airbus A380 flight program.
