Airbus A340-313, serial number 154, entered service with BWIA West Indies Airways as 9Y-TJN. The aircraft joined BWIA's long haul fleet and operated international services from the Caribbean to destinations including London and other major overseas markets. Configured with business class and economy seating, the four-engine A340-300 provided BWIA with the range required for nonstop transatlantic operations from its Trinidad and Tobago base. Powered by four CFM International CFM56-5C engines, 9Y-TJN combined long range capability with widebody passenger comfort and became one of the most distinctive aircraft operated by the Caribbean carrier.
