Lockheed L-188 Electra Diecast Model
American Airlines, N6129A

Limited Edition

Lockheed L-188 Electra   6.25"   6"

Lockheed L-188 Electra, operated by American Airlines as N6129A. The aircraft served during an important period in the development of commercial jet travel, when airlines were rapidly expanding route networks and replacing older equipment with faster, higher-capacity aircraft. American Airlines used the type on passenger services where its combination of performance, capacity, and range matched contemporary traffic requirements. N6129A represents a generation of classic airliners that became familiar sights at major airports and helped establish modern scheduled airline service. Although later designs offered lower fuel consumption and improved technology, these aircraft earned lasting reputations for durability and dependable operation.

Lockheed L-188 Electra

Designed and built by Lockheed for American Airlines, the L-188 Electra first flew on December 6, 1957. The L-188 was the first turboprop airliner produced in the United States, with standard seating for 66 to 88 passengers. Powered by four Allison 501D-13 turboprops, the aircraft performed nearly as well as contemporary turbojets but cost less to operate. Unfortunately, two fatal accidents quickly eroded faith in the type and led to early cancelation of production. Electras were most infamously flown by the Argentine Navy, who used them to dispose of political prisoners over the Rio de La Plata.
