Lockheed C-130H Hercules, serial number 81-0629, operated by the United States Air Force. Powered by four Allison T56 turboprop engines, the C-130H combines rugged construction, excellent short-field performance, and a large rear-loading cargo compartment. Aircraft 81-0629 has served as part of the USAF tactical airlift force, supporting movement of troops, vehicles, equipment, and humanitarian supplies. The Hercules can operate from relatively short and austere airfields, making it especially valuable for deployments and disaster-relief missions. The C-130H represents one of the most successful generations of the long-lived Hercules family, which has served the USAF for decades. Designed to function as a troop, medical evacuation and cargo transport aircraft, the C-130 Hercules was first flown on August 23rd, 1954. Built by Lockheed and capable of over 40,000 lbs of payload, this four-engine turboprop aircraft is quite possibly the most versatile tactical transport in existence. Its modern roles include airlift and airdrop, electronic surveillance, search and rescue, space-capsule recovery, helicopter refueling and aerial attack. Capable of takeoffs and landings from unprepared runways, the C-130 has even landed and taken off from a carrier deck without benefit of arresting gear or catapults. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
