Lockheed C-130A Hercules, serial number 182-3224, operated by Aeropostal Cargo de Mexico as XA-RSH. Originally built as U.S. Air Force 57-0517, the aircraft later entered civilian cargo service in Mexico and was named "Betzy." Powered by four Allison T56 turboprop engines, XA-RSH was well suited to transporting heavy and outsized freight into airports with limited infrastructure. During its Aeropostal career, the Hercules also supported humanitarian operations, including flights for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in 1996. The aircraft was eventually withdrawn from service and was photographed stored in deteriorating condition at Mexico City. Designed to function as a troop, medical evacuation and cargo transport aircraft, the C-130 Hercules was first flown on August 23rd, 1954. Built by Lockheed and capable of over 40,000 lbs of payload, this four-engine turboprop aircraft is quite possibly the most versatile tactical transport in existence. Its modern roles include airlift and airdrop, electronic surveillance, search and rescue, space-capsule recovery, helicopter refueling and aerial attack.
