Lockheed L-1011 TriStar   10.75"   9.25"

Lockheed L-1011 TriStar, operated by Air America as N372EA. The widebody served medium and long-haul passenger routes, providing substantial seating capacity, useful cargo volume, and the range needed for international services. Air America used aircraft such as N372EA to connect major hubs with important destinations across its network. The type combined dependable airline performance with the passenger comfort expected from a twin-aisle aircraft and became an important part of the carrier's fleet planning. As newer widebodies entered service with improved engines, aerodynamics, and fuel efficiency, aircraft of this generation continued to demonstrate the versatility that made them successful long-distance transports.

Lockheed L-1011 TriStar

Designed to meet an American Airlines requirement for a wide-bodied transport, the L-1011 was first flown on November 16th, 1970. The general layout and three-engined configuration is very similar to the McDonnell Douglas DC-10, with which the L-1011 was designed to compete. It was the first widebody airliner to receive FAA certification for zero-visibilty autolanding using an Inertial Navigation System based autopilot. A total of 250 aircraft were produced before Lockheed elected to completely withdraw from the commercial aircraft business as a result of poor sales.
