Boeing 747-200, operated by British Airtours as G-BDXL. The widebody served medium and long-haul passenger routes, providing substantial seating capacity, useful cargo volume, and the range needed for international services. British Airtours used aircraft such as G-BDXL to connect major hubs with important destinations across its network. The type combined dependable airline performance with the passenger comfort expected from a twin-aisle aircraft and became an important part of the carrier's fleet planning. As newer widebodies entered service with improved engines, aerodynamics, and fuel efficiency, aircraft of this generation continued to demonstrate the versatility that made them successful long-distance transports.
