Airbus A320-271N, serial number 7078, entered service with Lufthansa as D-AIND. The aircraft joined Lufthansa's new generation narrowbody fleet and operates short and medium haul services throughout Europe from the airline's German hubs. Named "Unna," the A320neo is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW1100G geared turbofan engines, providing improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and lower noise levels compared with earlier A320s. In 2026, D-AIND received Lufthansa's special 100th anniversary livery, making the narrowbody one of several aircraft selected to commemorate the airline's centennial year. Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives.
