Space Shuttle "Endeavour" Orbiter Vehicle Designation OV-105 was scheduled for its first mission on May 4, 1992 but was delayed until May 7, 1992. The crew deployed 4 satellites and saved an unusable previously launched satellite. To accomplish the repositioning a first time ever 3 crew member EVA attached a live rocket motor to reposition the satellite in the correct geosynchronous. Endeavour's last mission took place from May 16, 2011 to June 1, 2011. Endeavour's life span saw 25 missions, 173 crew, 4,671 orbits and 122,883,151 miles traveled.
Designed as a re-usable spacecraft for orbital human spaceflight, the Space Shuttle first flew on April 12, 1981. This American spacecraft system has flown more than 130 times, undergoing a variety of missions from satellite launch to space science experiments and construction and repair of space stations. The system is comprised of an external tank, two solid rocket boosters and an orbiter vehicle, which carries the crew and payload. The shuttle stack launches vertically, and the orbiter returns to Earth horizontally at the end of each mission. The shuttle has more than 2.5 million parts, making it one of the most complex machines ever built. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
