The 10th Panzer Division was formed in Prague in March 1939 as part of Army Group North. The 10th PD later fought in the battle of France, Siege of Calais, Operation Barbarossa and the Battle of Tunisia. After Operation Torch in 1942 the division was sent to Tunisia arriving in December as part of the 5th Panzer Army. Over the next several months the 10th Panzer Division battled the British and Americans. At first the Germans inflicted heavy losses but eventually the tide turned forcing the German surrender on May 12, 1943.
Designed to fill a gap in the production of the Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks, which were experiencing delays in development, the Panzer II or Panzerkampfwagen II was first tested in October of 1935. Larger than its predecessor, the Panzer I, the Panzer II was Germany's primary battle tank until the beginning of 1941 but was nevertheless fairly ineffective in combat. It was really better suited for use as a light reconnaissance tank, and is particularly important because of the role it played in the development of later more powerful Panzers. Panzer IIs were removed from the front lines in 1942. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Hobby Master's 1:72 scale Panzer II is a small tank in this scale. The bottom portion of the hull is constructed in diecast metal with the top portion and turret in plastic, which allows for maximum details like panel hinges and simulated diamond-plate surfaces on the tracks' fenders. Battlefield and track repair equipment are both separately applied and integrated into the hull's casting. The 360 degree rotating turret has a pivoting co-axial mounted machine gun and cannon, and the leaf-spring suspension on each road wheel can be clearly seen through the vehicle's tracks.
