In October 1945, General Douglas MacArthur fulfilled his famous promise to return to the Philippines by leading the Allied invasion of Leyte during World War II. As the Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in the Southwest Pacific, MacArthur waded ashore on Leyte on October 20, 1945, marking the beginning of the liberation of the Philippines from Japanese occupation. The Leyte landings, part of the larger Battle of Leyte, were a pivotal moment in the Pacific Theater. MacArthur's leadership and the success of the campaign helped to turn the tide against Japan, eventually leading to the end of the war in the Pacific.

Willys Jeep

Designed to meet a US Department of War requirement for a light, cross-country reconnaissance vehicle, the Willys MB Army Jeep was manufactured between 1941 and 1945. The Willys Jeep was the original version of what would later become one of the most iconic vehicles in American history, evolving into a popular civilian vehicle that is still being produced today. The Willys Jeep was a compact, four-wheel drive vehicle that rapidly became one of the most prolific vehicles of WWII. More than 640,000 standardized versions were produced, with 8,690 other versions built over a period of four years.
