In 1975, IDF/AF 113 Squadron "Hornet" operated the IAI Nesher from Hatzor Air Base, Israel. The squadron had received the Israeli built fighter in 1972-73, replacing its aging Dassault Ouragans. The Nesher had proven highly effective during the 1973 Yom Kippur War, when 113 Squadron flew hundreds of combat sorties, primarily in the air superiority and interception roles. By 1975, the Nesher remained the squadron's frontline fighter, armed with 30 mm cannon and air to air missiles. Its service was nearing an end, however, as 113 Squadron began converting to the newer IAI Kfir in 1976.
