The Indian Air Force (IAF) operates the Dassault Rafale, a state-of-the-art multirole fighter jet, as part of a strategic acquisition to modernize its fleet. India signed a deal for 36 Rafales in 2016, and the aircraft began arriving in 2020. The Rafale brings advanced capabilities to the IAF, including superior avionics, AESA radar, and the ability to carry a wide range of weapons like the Meteor air-to-air missile and SCALP air-to-ground cruise missile. Stationed at Ambala and Hasimara airbases, the Rafale enhances India's air dominance, improving its readiness for both defensive and offensive operations in complex regional security environments.
Designed as a result of the ACX (Avion de Combat Experimentale) program prior to France's withdrawl from the EFA project, the Rafale was first flown on July 4th, 1986. The Rafale is multi-role fighter for the Franch Air Force and Navy, capable of handling missions from reconnaissance to air supremacy to nuclear deterrence. The Rafale built on Dassault's expertise with delta-winged fighter design, adding a forward canard to improve maneuverability and reduce approach speeds for carrier operations. The Rafale's advanced avionics and and limited stealth capabilities are expected to secure it as the primary combat aircraft for the French Air Force and Navy until at least 2040. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
