The Luftwaffe Fliegerausbildungszentrum der Luftwaffe (FlgAusZLw) is a German Air Force training unit based at Holloman Air Force Base (AFB) in New Mexico, USA. It is responsible for providing advanced training to Luftwaffe pilots and aircrew members, primarily focusing on fighter aircraft and operational tactics. The unit operates in close collaboration with the U.S. Air Force, utilizing the base's extensive training facilities, including the nearby White Sands Missile Range. Holloman AFB serves as a crucial location for multinational exercises and provides the Luftwaffe with a realistic environment for high-intensity training in both air combat and operational readiness. Designed in collaboration with Britain, West Germany and Italy, the Tornado was first flown on August 14th, 1974 and is thought by many to be the most important military aircraft in Western European history. Nicknamed "The Flying Fin" because of its large tail fin, the Tornado has a variable wing sweep design and is capable of taking off and landing on short airstrips. It is equipped with terrain-following radar, which allows for hands-off, low-level flight in any weather.
