The 469th Flying Training Squadron (FTS) is part of the U.S. Air Force's Air Education and Training Command (AETC), stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. As a critical component of the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT) program, the squadron specializes in advanced jet pilot training with the T-38 Talon. The 469th FTS instructs student pilots from NATO countries, focusing on skills like formation flying, low-level navigation, and tactical maneuvers. This international training fosters interoperability among NATO air forces and ensures a high standard of proficiency, making the 469th FTS a key asset in preparing combat-ready pilots. Designed as a supersonic jet trainer to replace the T-33, the T-38 was based on the F-5 Freedom Fighter airframe and was first flown on March 10th, 1959. The pressurized tandem-seat cockpit offers excellent visibility for both student and instructor and provides a comfortable training environment. Being both lightweight and nimble, the T-38 is used extensively to prepare military pilots for high performance jet aircraft and has earned the nickname "White Rocket".
