The 7th Fighter Training Squadron is an active United States Air Force unit, assigned to the 1st Operations Group and stationed at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. It operates the T-38 Talon in an adversary role to help prepare F-22 Raptor pilots for real-world combat scenarios.
Designed as a supersonic jet trainer to replace the T-33, the T-38 was based on the F-5 Freedom Fighter airframe and was first flown on March 10th, 1959. The pressurized tandem-seat cockpit offers excellent visibility for both student and instructor and provides a comfortable training environment. Being both lightweight and nimble, the T-38 is used extensively to prepare military pilots for high performance jet aircraft and has earned the nickname "White Rocket". The Hobby Master 1:72 scale T-38 Talon family recreates the sleek twin-engine supersonic trainer in T-38A, T-38C and AT-38B configurations. The mold captures the narrow tandem-seat cockpit, short wings, side air intakes and twin exhausts that give the Talon its distinctive profile. Display features include canopies that can be configured open or closed, interchangeable extended or retracted landing gear, crew figures and a display stand for an in-flight configuration. The armed AT-38B includes an installable gun pod. Die-cast metal construction is complemented by detailed cockpit interiors, wheel wells, antennas, engine exhausts and finely reproduced surface features.
