Production of the EA-6B Prowler took place between 1966 and 1991 when the last of 173 aircraft were delivered. The first EA-6B entered USN service at NAS Whidbey Island in January 1971 and one year later was operating in Vietnam. On June 27, 2015 the last USN EA-6B 163890/AJ502 assigned to VAQ-134 "Garudas" made its farewell flight during the Sunset Ceremony to celebrate the forty-four years of EA-6B service. This Prowler will be on display at Point Mugu, California. Garuda is a Hindu/Buddhist deity able to swiftly travel anywhere to protect.
Developed from the EA-6A Electronic Intruder, the EA-6B is a carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft that was first flown on May 25th, 1968. The Prowler is a key element in any USN or USMC strike-force by disrupting and jamming enemy radio and radar signals, providing protection for attacking aircraft as they carry out their mission. The aircraft can also be equipped with anti-radiation missiles desigend to home-in on enemy radar installations and neutralize surface-to-air missile threats. After a long history with the EA-6B, the US Navy began transitioning to the F/A-18G Growler in 2009. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
