During the Cold War, the 95th Reconnaissance Squadron called the English air base at Alconbury home. It at the time operated the tactical surveillance version of the otherwise strategically utilized and equipped U-2, designated TR-1. The unit took part in the Gulf War starting in 1991, one of the TR-1s main tasks being the finding of Scud rocket launch facilities.
Designed as a long-range, high-altitude reconnaisance aircraft, the U-2 was first flown on August 4th, 1955. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
