The Saab JAS 39 Gripen (griffin) is a light single-engine multirole fighter aircraft manufactured by the Swedish aerospace and defense company Saab AB. The Gripen has a delta wing and canard configuration with relaxed stability design and fly-by-wire flight controls. The Swedish Air Force placed a total order for 204 Gripens with the first examples entering service with the Skaraborg Wing (F 7) on 1 November 1997 and the final aircraft delivered on 26 November 2008. The JAS 39C or Gripen C is a NATO-compatible single seat version with extended capabilities in terms of armament, electronics and inflight refuelling. This variant was first deliveried on 6 September 2002.
