The USAF 436th Airlift Wing (AW), based at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, operates the C-5M Super Galaxy, one of the largest and most capable transport aircraft in the U.S. military. Known as "The Eagle Wing," the 436th AW specializes in global strategic airlift, moving oversized cargo such as helicopters, tanks, and other heavy equipment across long distances. The C-5M, an upgraded model of the original C-5, features advanced avionics and more powerful engines, allowing it to carry up to 281,000 pounds of cargo. This wing's mission is critical for rapid global deployment, supporting military and humanitarian operations worldwide.
Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".
Designed to meet a USAF requirement for a heavy logistics transport, the C-5 was first flown on June 30th, 1968. The t-tail configuration provides unobstructed access to the large rear loading ramp which, in combination with the massive hinged nose, allows for "drive-through" loading and unloading of cargo. The C-5 is one of the largest military aircraft ever built and its cavernous cargo compartment measures 121 feet long by 19 feet wide and 13.5 feet high. This is in addition to an upper deck with seating for 73 passengers. Current versions of the aircraft are capable of lifting up to 270,000 lbs of cargo. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
