The USAF 436th Airlift Wing (AW), known as "The Eagle Wing," operates the C-17 Globemaster III at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware. This strategic airlift unit provides rapid global mobility, delivering personnel, equipment, and supplies to support combat and humanitarian missions worldwide. The C-17, a versatile and powerful transport aircraft, can carry up to 170,900 pounds of cargo, including troops, vehicles, and medical evacuation equipment, while also capable of operating on short, austere airstrips. The 436th AW's mission readiness and global reach make it a vital asset in responding to military operations, disaster relief, and national security needs.

Designed by McDonnell Douglas as a military transport aircraft, the C-17 Globemaster III was first flown on September 15, 1991. This enormous aircraft is used for strategic airlift of cargo and troops, and is capable of rapidly deploying and sustaining combat troops in potential battle areas. Among its many additional uses are medical evacuation, airdrop and tactical airlift. Powered by four reversible turbofan engines, the C-17 requires a crew of just three (a pilot, copilot and loadmaster).
