The C-5M Super Galaxy is a strategic transport aircraft and is the largest aircraft in the Air Force inventory. Its primary mission is to transport cargo and personnel for the Department of Defense. The C-5M is a modernized version of the legacy C-5 designed and manufactured by Lockheed Martin. Currently the U.S. Air Force owns and operates 52 C-5B/C/M. They are stationed at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware; Travis AFB, California; Lackland AFB, Texas; and Westover Air Reserve Base, Massachusetts. Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight". Designed to meet a USAF requirement for a heavy logistics transport, the C-5 was first flown on June 30th, 1968. The t-tail configuration provides unobstructed access to the large rear loading ramp which, in combination with the massive hinged nose, allows for "drive-through" loading and unloading of cargo. The C-5 is one of the largest military aircraft ever built and its cavernous cargo compartment measures 121 feet long by 19 feet wide and 13.5 feet high.
