Boeing 727-251, construction number 21412, was delivered to Northwest Orient Airlines as N298US in 1975 during the airline's fleet expansion of 727-200s. The aircraft primarily operated domestic and short-haul international routes from hubs in Minneapolis, Detroit, and Seattle, connecting major cities across the United States and Canada. N298US featured Northwest Orient's red, gray, and white livery and was configured for passenger service with two classes. The 727-200 allowed Northwest to increase capacity on high-demand routes while retaining operational flexibility at smaller airports. After decades of reliable service, N298US was retired as newer twinjets replaced the 727 fleet, ending its operational career.
