Convair 990A Coronado, operated by Garuda Indonesian Airways as PK-GJB. The four-engine jet was among the fastest subsonic airliners of its era and helped Garuda expand international services during the 1960s. Powered by four General Electric CJ805 turbofans, the 990 featured distinctive anti-shock bodies on its wings and was designed for very high cruising speeds. Garuda used the type on long-distance routes linking Indonesia with destinations in Asia and Europe. Although the Coronado offered impressive performance, its high fuel consumption limited commercial success. Today the type is remembered as one of the most distinctive and technically ambitious early jet airliners.
