Saab 340A, operated by Bar Harbor Airlines as N407BH in Eastern Express feeder service. The compact twin-engine turboprop connected smaller communities in the northeastern United States with Eastern Air Lines hubs and major airports. Powered by two General Electric CT7 engines, the Saab 340 offered economical performance, a pressurized cabin, and seating for approximately 30 passengers. N407BH was well suited to short sectors serving New England airports where larger aircraft were unnecessary. Bar Harbor became an important regional partner before its operations were absorbed into larger airline systems. The Saab 340 subsequently enjoyed a long career with regional operators worldwide.
