McDonnell Douglas MD-88, operated by Delta Air Lines as N941DL. The aircraft formed part of Delta's enormous MD-88 fleet, which became a defining sight at Atlanta and throughout the southeastern United States. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-219 engines, N941DL served short and medium-haul domestic routes for decades. Delta valued the MD-88 for rugged reliability, high utilization, and useful passenger capacity, but the type became increasingly expensive to operate compared with newer narrowbodies. Delta retired its final MD-88s in June 2020, ending more than three decades of intensive service and closing a major chapter in the airline's McDonnell Douglas history.
