Boeing 737 MAX 8, operated by China Southern Airlines as B-1205. The aircraft joined one of China's largest airline fleets for domestic and regional international services. Powered by two CFM International LEAP-1B engines, the MAX 8 offers improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, lower noise, and greater range than the earlier 737-800. China Southern uses the type from major bases including Guangzhou and other hubs to destinations throughout China and across Asia. B-1205 complements the carrier's enormous Airbus and Boeing narrowbody fleet and represents an important part of its continuing modernization as older aircraft are progressively replaced by more efficient new-generation models.

The Boeing 737 MAX is an American narrow-body aircraft series being developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes as the fourth generation of the Boeing 737, succeeding the Boeing 737 Next Generation. The first flight was on January 29, 2016. The 737 MAX is based on earlier 737 designs but re-engined with more efficient CFM International LEAP-1B along with aerodynamic improvements, most notably split-tip winglets, and airframe modifications.
