De Havilland Canada DHC-8-100 Dash 8, operated by Piedmont Airlines as N808EX. The aircraft spent its career feeding passengers from smaller eastern U.S. communities into the US Airways network and later American Airlines under the American Eagle brand. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW120-series turboprops, the Dash 8-100 was valued for low operating costs, strong short-runway capability, and reliable performance in demanding regional service. Piedmont operated the Dash 8 family for decades, making the type closely associated with the carrier. N808EX represents the small turboprops that helped maintain scheduled airline service to numerous lower-demand communities.
Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".
Designed as a short-haul transport based on the Dash 7 design, the Bombardier Dash 8 (formerly de Havilland Canada DHC-8) was first flown on June 20th, 1983. Appearing to be a smaller, twin-engined version of the Dash 7, the Dash 8 design placed less emphasis on STOL (Short take-off and landing) capability and focused more heavily on economical operation. The two Pratt & Whitney PW100 engines mated to a very high aspect ratio wing enabled the Dash 8 to offer the lowest cost per passenger mile of any regional airliner of it's era. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
