RAF Poseidon MRA Mk 1 ZP806, named "Guernsey's Reply," is the sixth of nine Boeing P-8A maritime patrol aircraft acquired by the Royal Air Force. It arrived at RAF Lossiemouth on September 21, 2021 and operates with No. 201 Squadron, "Guernsey's Own." The name honors the squadron's longstanding association with Guernsey and a Spitfire flown by Herbert Machon during World War Two. ZP806 performs anti-submarine warfare, maritime surveillance, reconnaissance, and search and rescue missions. Its sophisticated radar, acoustic sensors, electro-optical equipment, and weapons systems provide the RAF with a powerful long range maritime patrol capability.
Designed as an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft to replace the P-3 Orion, the P-8 Poseidon was first flown on April 25th, 2009. The aircraft is based on the 737-800 airliner. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
