Airbus A320-271N, serial number 8099, operated by LATAM Airlines as CC-BHG. The aircraft joined LATAM's new-generation narrowbody fleet for domestic and regional services throughout South America. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW1100G geared turbofan engines, CC-BHG offers improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, greater range, and lower noise than earlier A320 variants. LATAM deploys A320neos from major hubs in Chile and across its regional network to destinations throughout the continent. The type is an important part of the airline group's fleet modernization, complementing conventional A320-family aircraft while reducing operating costs on high-frequency short and medium haul routes.
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. Gemini's 1:200 scale A320 family are constructed almost entirely of diecast metal and are ready to be displayed right out of the box. The seamlessly constructed fuselage features fine photo-etched metal antennas, jewel cut anti-collision lenses and pad-printed windows and doors that do not interrupt the lines of the aircraft. The series covers the original A320 fuselage, the stretched A321 variant and the shorter A319. Each model features solid metal wings with delicate "sharklet" wingtips and fitted with either Pratt & Whitney or CFM International turbo fan engines with detailed fan blades inside.
