Saab 340B, serial number 340B-428, operated by Mesaba Airlines for Delta Connection as N428XJ. The 34-seat turboprop served short regional routes throughout the Upper Midwest and other parts of the United States, feeding passengers into Delta and previously Northwest hubs. Powered by two General Electric CT7 engines, the Saab 340B offered economical operation, dependable cold-weather performance, and good short-field capability. Mesaba became one of the largest U.S. operators of the type, using aircraft such as N428XJ to connect smaller communities with Minneapolis and other hubs. Regional jets eventually replaced most Saab 340 services in the Delta network.
