Airbus A330-223, serial number 578, originally operated by Northwest Airlines as N852NW and later transferred to Delta Air Lines following their merger. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW4168A engines, the aircraft joined Northwest's long haul fleet for transatlantic and transpacific services, replacing older McDonnell Douglas DC-10s. Under Delta, N852NW continued international operations from major hubs to destinations in Europe, Asia, and other regions. Delta refurbished its inherited A330 fleet with updated cabins, extending the aircraft's useful career. The A330-200's range and moderate capacity continue to make it valuable on long routes with lower passenger demand.

Airbus A330-200

Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers. The A330 has the same range and payload capacity as a DC-10 with 25% greater fuel efficiency.
