ATR 72-212, serial number 373, operated by Cubana de Aviacion as CU-T1548. The larger ATR turboprop provided economical regional capacity on domestic Cuban routes and services to nearby Caribbean destinations. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127 engines, the ATR 72 combines efficient fuel consumption, useful passenger capacity, and strong performance from shorter runways. CU-T1548 helped Cubana connect Havana with provincial cities and smaller airports where larger jet aircraft were less practical. The ATR family provided a modern Western-built regional complement to Cubana's historically diverse fleet of Soviet, Russian, European, and other aircraft.
