Boeing 737-990ER, serial number 44108, entered service with Alaska Airlines as N487AS in 2015. Powered by two CFM International CFM56-7B engines, the stretched 737-900ER provides high-capacity narrowbody service throughout Alaska's network, including transcontinental, Hawaiian, and Alaska routes. N487AS has carried the distinctive oneworld alliance livery, highlighting Alaska Airlines' membership in the global airline partnership. The 737-900ER became the largest member of Alaska's pre-MAX 737 fleet and remains valuable on busy routes requiring more seats than the 737-800. N487AS continues active service in 2026. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats. In fact, the 737 series is the best-selling jetliner in aviation history with more than 6,500 aircraft manufactured to date and more than 4,500 still in service with over 500 airlines around the world. Incredibly, there is a 737 taking off or landing somewhere in the world, on average, every five seconds. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
