HMS Invincible was a British Royal Navy aircraft carrier and the lead ship of her class. Commissioned in 1980, she played a crucial role in the Falklands War in 1982, serving as the flagship and providing air cover with her Sea Harrier jets. Invincible also participated in various NATO operations and humanitarian missions. The carrier was notable for its ski-jump flight deck, enhancing aircraft takeoff capabilities. After a distinguished service of over three decades, HMS Invincible was decommissioned in 2005 and sold for scrap in 2011, marking the end of her operational life and her contribution to naval aviation history.
The Invincible-class was a class of light aircraft carrier operated by the Royal Navy from 1980 until 2014. Three ships were constructed: HMS Invincible was, HMS Illustrious and HMS Ark Royal. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
