The 761st Tank Battalion was an independent tank battalion of the United States Army during World War II. Its ranks primarily consisted of African American soldiers, who by War Department policy were not permitted to serve in the same units as White troops; the United States Armed Forces did not officially desegregate until after World War II. The 761st were known as the Black Panthers after their distinctive unit insignia, which featured a black panther's head, and the unit's motto was "Come out fighting". During the war, the unit received a Presidential Unit Citation for its actions. In addition, a large number of individual members also received medals, including one Medal of Honor, eleven Silver Stars and approximately 300 Purple Hearts.
Please note: An optional Metal Track Upgrade set is available separately to further increase the realism of this model.
The pilot model of the M4 was completed in September 1941, and the Sherman became the most widely produced tank of the war. The M4 Sherman defeated heavier tanks with superior numbers, and by using outflanking tactics to strike thinner enemy flank armor. Shermans also achieved success with progressively upgunned models and by working with tank destroyers. The Sherman tank--named by the British--was fast, maneuverable, mechanically reliable, easy to manufacture, and effective in its infantry support role. It served with the US Army and Marines during World War II, and the US transferred large numbers to the United Kingdom and allied forces of many countries. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Forces of Valor's 1:32 scale M4 Sherman tank is beautifully detailed-the top portion of the hull and turret are made of plastic, which gives the welding beads joining the hull's armor an authentic look and feel. Rear hatch opens to reveal finely detailed Chrysler A57 Multibank engine. The 360-degree rotating turret has two opening hatches and an elevating diecast metal cannon. A moveable machine gun mounted on top is included on some releases. Each release features beautifully applied weathering effects, rolling rubber tracks and wheels, a full load of separately applied battlefield equipment and a variety of battlefield diorama accessories to provide a variety of display options.
