Boeing 727-100, registered N727EV and operated in United States Postal Service colors. The aircraft was used in the overnight express-mail system developed around dedicated contract jet operations, when 727s were particularly valuable for their speed, cargo capacity, and ability to serve airports across the United States. USPS itself did not operate an airline fleet; aircraft wearing postal markings were flown by contracted carriers. N727EV represents the period when the familiar trijet became closely associated with overnight mail and parcel transportation before newer, more fuel-efficient freighters gradually replaced early 727s.
