Airbus A320, operated by TACA International Airlines as N567AV. The aircraft was part of TACA's important transition from older Boeing equipment to the Airbus A320 family, which became the foundation of the Central American carrier's short- and medium-haul fleet. N567AV operated scheduled services throughout TACA's network linking Central America with Mexico, the Caribbean, South America and the United States. The A320 provided TACA with modern fly-by-wire controls, improved fuel efficiency and commonality with its growing Airbus fleet. N567AV represents the period when TACA developed a highly integrated regional network before its merger with Avianca ultimately brought the historic TACA identity to an end.
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. More than 4,500 of the A320 family have been produced, almost all of which are still in active service. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
