The German Army Aviation Corps is a special unit within the German Armed Forces, containing all its helicopter units. Army Aviation Regiment 36 was formed in October 1979 at Fritzlar Airbase, flying the MBB Bo 105. In 2003 transformed into Attack Helicopter Regiment 36 (KHR 36) and was designated the first operator of the Eurocopter Tiger.
Designed to meet French and German requirements for an advanced multi-role attack helicopter, the EC665 Tiger was first flown on April 29th, 1991. The UHT, a pivotal member of the Tiger family. It excels in armed reconnaissance, fire support, and anti-tank warfare. There is no integrated gun turret, but a 12.7 mm (0.50 in) gunpod can be fitted if needed. The weapon configuration was designed to be multirole and easily convertible to cover the whole spectrum of possible mission scenarios and to be effective against a broad range of targets.
