The M1A1 SEPv2 Abrams is a further refinement of the upgraded M1A1 SEP Abrams. The System Enhancement Package (SEP) improves combat effectiveness and survivability with digital fire control improvements, improved thermal sights, better crew displays, and enhanced situational awareness over earlier M1A1 variants. It retained the 120 mm gun and core armor but focused on electronics, reliability, and crew effectiveness. SEPv2 introduced a second generation FLIR for gunner and commander, improved networking and power management, upgraded armor packages, and greater reliability based on combat experience. Overall, SEP marked the digital leap, while SEP V2 delivered sharper sensors, better survivability, and smoother integration across modern battlefields.
General Dynamics delivered the first M1 Abrams to the U.S. Army in 1980. The Abrams is a full tracked, low profile land combat system possessing a high degree of armor protection, lethal firepower, maneuverability and agility. It is built primarily from sturdy rolled homogeneous armor steel plates, sandwiched around thicker protective material. Its four man crew is aided by an array of sensors that constantly monitor the tank's tilt, the turret's motion and any gusts of wind; a computer adjusts the gun accordingly to keep it aimed at its target.
