The M1296 Mobile Gun System (MGS) is a variant of the Stryker armored vehicle, equipped with a 105mm tank gun to provide direct fire support to infantry units. Developed for the U.S. Army, the MGS enhances the Stryker Brigade Combat Team's ability to engage enemy fortifications, light armored vehicles, and troops. It features a low-profile turret and autoloader, allowing for a reduced crew and faster firing rate. While highly mobile and air-transportable, its lighter armor and limited ammunition have drawn criticism. Despite these concerns, the M1296 offers valuable firepower in expeditionary operations where heavier tanks may be impractical. Designed as a heavy armored tank destroyer based on the Styker platform, the M1128 Mobile Gun System entered service with the US Army in 2002. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
