This model is decked out in the markings of the 436th Military Airlift Wing, a unit that is based at Dover AFB. The 436th Airlift Wing is the active duty wing and senior military organization at Dover Air Force Base, DE. The "Eagle Wing" is a subordinate of 21st Air Force headquartered at McGuire AFB NJ, and Air Mobility Command, with its headquarters at Scott AFB, IL. The Eagle Wing consists of the operations, logistics, support, and medical groups; in addition to 12 divisions and two detachments. The wing has over 4,000 active-duty military and civilian employees. Home to 36 C-5 Galaxy aircraft, the Eagle Wing provides 25 percent of the nation's inter-theater airlift capability, providing worldwide movement of outsized cargo and personnel on scheduled, special assignment, exercise and contingency airlift missions. The 436th is the only combat-ready C-5 Galaxy wing capable of employing airdrop and special operations tactics in support of worldwide airlift. In 1998, the wing flew more than 600 missions throughout the world projecting global reach to more than 90 countries on six different continents including Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, North and South America. Additionally, the Eagle Wing operates the largest and busiest aerial port in the Department of Defense with its passenger terminal moving over 100,000 passengers in 1998.

Lockheed C-5A Galaxy

Designed to meet a USAF requirement for a heavy logistics transport, the C-5 was first flown on June 30th, 1968. The t-tail configuration provides unobstructed access to the large rear loading ramp which, in combination with the massive hinged nose, allows for "drive-through" loading and unloading of cargo. The C-5 is one of the largest military aircraft ever built and its cavernous cargo compartment measures 121 feet long by 19 feet wide and 13.5 feet high. This is in addition to an upper deck with seating for 73 passengers. Current versions of the aircraft are capable of lifting up to 270,000 lbs of cargo.

Dragon's 1:400 C-5 is a large model in this scale and is constructed almost entirely of solid diecast metal with an intelligent blend of plastic components. The fuselage and wings are cast as a single unit from solid diecast metal yielding a smooth seamless joint providing for most the model's weight. This models extra-wide body fuselage is wonderfully sculpted and features pad-printed windows and doors that do not interrupt the lines of the aircraft. Each wing integrates six accurately replicated flap track fairings at the rear with fan blade details clearly visible in each of the four engines.
