The French Char B1 was a heavily armored tank developed during the interwar period and widely used during the early stages of World War II. Designed as a breakthrough tank, it combined a hull-mounted 75mm gun for destroying fortifications with a turret-mounted 47mm gun for engaging enemy armor. Its thick armor made it one of the most powerful tanks in service during the 1940 Battle of France, capable of resisting most German anti-tank weapons. Despite its strength, the Char B1 was complex, expensive, and difficult to maintain. Many surviving vehicles were captured and later operated by German forces.
