The first village to be liberated behind Omaha Beach was Vierville. By mid-day on June 6, 1944, US forces had taken the village and tanks from the 741st Tank Battalion moved in. The 741st had lost 79 tanks during the landing, and it was thanks only to reinforcements later in the day that they were able to field an effective force at all.
Inspired by some of the most evocative and iconographic events of World War II, this series captures a snapshot in time using highly detailed and historically accurate diecast models, spin-cast metal figures and cold-cast diorama bases. The scene that is created is so strikingly realistic, it's as is you were looking at a photograph of the event. Combine two sets to create an expanded scene.
The pilot model of the M4 was completed in September 1941, and the Sherman became the most widely produced tank of the war. The M4 Sherman defeated heavier tanks with superior numbers, and by using outflanking tactics to strike thinner enemy flank armor. Shermans also achieved success with progressively upgunned models and by working with tank destroyers. The Sherman tank--named by the British--was fast, maneuverable, mechanically reliable, easy to manufacture, and effective in its infantry support role.
