In 1913, Swedish immigrant Carl Erick began transporting miners from Hibbing to Alice Minnesota for 15 cents a ride. A decade later his Northland Bus Lines combined with other bus lines to become the Greyhound Corporation. Beginning in 1956, the improved Interstate Highway system made road travel the preferred and most cost effective method of passenger transportation. The Greyhound logo and its slogan "Leave the Driving to Us" made the bus line a household name throughout the United States. Now based in Dallas Texas, the Greyhound Line serves passengers at over 3,700 destinations across North America.
Designed and built by Motor Coach Industries, the MCI 102 bus was introduced in 1985. The first two models of MCI's new 102"-wide coaches were more aerodynamic and more luxurious than their smaller predecessors and could be tailor made to customer specifications. By 1989, the tour coach version of the MCI 102 had become Motor Coach Industries' top seller. By the mid 1990s, the company introduced the 102EL3 Renaissance, a completely redesigned coach that became-and still remains-the industry standard in bussing technology and engineering. Today, the MCI 102 and its descendents are some of the longest-lived and most prolific busses on the road. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Corgi's MCI Model 102 1:50 scale bus is heavy, weighing in at almost two ponds. Constructed almost entirely of diecast metal, this model features fine details such as dark tinted passenger windows that blend seamlessly along the sides. When held to the light, a fully rendered passenger cabin and lavatory can be seen inside. The driver's cab is visible through the front windscreen and there are separately attached driver's mirrors. The rear of the model features large engine vents and a separately applied brake light. Additional details of the drive train are included on the underside of the model.
