Built from a modified Lotus Esprit S1, the actual prop used for underwater filming was a fully functional, unarmed submersible constructed by Perry Oceanographic. Though it could not drive on land, it amazed audiences with its futuristic concept. Combining sleek automotive design with imaginative spy gadgetry, the Lotus Esprit submarine cemented its place in pop culture and Bond film legend as a fan favorite.
